A federal court in Nevada preliminarily approved the settlement, which, according to lawyers, covers over 37 million MGM customers. The 2019 incident occurred when millions of customers names, addresses, telephone numbers, and other personal information were stolen from MGMs system and published on a cybercrime forum. In 2023, the group Scattered Spider was allegedly behind an attack on MGM and other Las Vegas resorts, where customers personal information, including social security numbers, was stolen.
